The Alderwyn Standard — five promises, every home, every day

Gentle by Design.

Every product that touches our residents' skin — soaps, lotions, shampoos — is chosen for sensitive skin by our founder, a credentialed cosmetic chemist and sensory professional. Aromatherapy and calming scent are part of daily life, not a special event. Even our bed linens are chosen for comfort — natural fibers whenever possible, because comfort starts with what touches the skin.

Clean Without Harsh Chemicals.

Top-tier cleanliness, gentle methods. We clean thoroughly every day using low-tox products — no heavy chemical fumes in the place our residents breathe all day.

Air You Can Feel.

HEPA air filtration runs in our homes around the clock. Fresh, filtered air is part of the care.

Food That Fits.

Three home-cooked meals a day, built around each resident: doctor-prescribed diets always honored, vegan and vegetarian options available, and an allergy-aware kitchen that cooks to each resident's documented needs.

Small On Purpose.

Never more than five residents. One home, one team, one honest all-inclusive price. Our caregivers know how everyone takes their coffee.

What every day includes

  • Three home-cooked meals a day plus snacks — posted weekly menu
  • Help with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting — with dignity
  • Medication management — stored safely, given on time, logged every time
  • Laundry and housekeeping — always included
  • Daily activities and gentle sensory wellness — music, aromatherapy touches, hand massage, crafts, morning sunlight time
  • 24-hour awake-and-available caregiving staff — every caregiver background-checked and trained in first aid and CPR
  • Transportation coordination for appointments
  • A written care plan for each resident — built with the family and reviewed regularly
  • Family updates — you'll never wonder how Mom or Dad is doing

Our founder built her career in sensory wellness, and it shapes daily life at Alderwyn. Soft textures, calming scents, familiar songs, warm light. Research and experience both say the same thing: older adults thrive when their senses are cared for, not just their schedules. It's the small things — and we built a whole home around them.

Our pricing. All of it.

Shared room (2 residents)
$4,500 / month

Everything — care, meals, laundry, activities, utilities

Private room
$5,250 / month

Everything — care, meals, laundry, activities, utilities

That's the whole price. No care-level tiers. No community fee. No move-in fee beyond the refundable $500 deposit. Compare that with local assisted living, where a $4,000 "base rate" routinely becomes $6,500 after care fees are added.

Veterans and surviving spouses: ask us about VA Aid & Attendance — many families qualify for $1,300–$2,700/month toward care and don't know it.

Who we care for

Alderwyn serves aged and elderly adults who need help with daily living but do not require continuous nursing care. We welcome residents with walkers and wheelchairs. Every admission starts with an honest written assessment — if we're not the right fit for your loved one's needs, we'll tell you, and we'll help you find who is.

Our home sits in a quiet Eastpointe neighborhood, minutes from St. Clair Shores, Roseville, and the Grosse Pointes — close enough for family to visit often.

Built for family visits

This is your family's home too. Grandchildren are welcome — our main-floor family room has a TV, a comfortable couch, games, and a card table, and the dining table is made for Sunday dinner with the whole crew.

Want time alone together? Ask us and we'll set aside a quiet main-floor space for private family visits.

Visiting from out of town? We can arrange a comfortable overnight stay just minutes from the home — through our guest house and trusted local partners. Just ask.

Why Alderwyn exists

Alderwyn was founded by a credentialed cosmetic chemist and sensory professional — the founder of a sensory wellness studio in Grosse Pointe Woods and a mother — who has spent her career studying how comfort actually works: how scent, touch, light, and routine change the way people feel in their own skin.

Alderwyn Care Homes brings that to elder care. Not a facility with hallways and shift changes — a real house in Eastpointe where five residents live like a household: real cooking, real conversation, caregivers who stay, and days built around comfort and dignity.

We named it Alderwyn because we're building something meant to last. The alder is a tree that grows strong near water and shelters what grows beside it, and "wyn" is the Old English word for joy. Alderwyn means sheltered joy — and that's exactly what we build.

The questions every family asks

What is an adult foster care home?

A state-regulated small group home — in our case, a maximum of five residents — providing 24-hour personal care, meals, and supervision in a real house. Michigan licenses and inspects these homes through LARA. It's the homelike alternative to a big assisted living building.

How is this different from assisted living?

Size and honesty. Assisted living buildings have 60–150 residents and price by "care levels" that raise the bill as needs grow. We have five residents, caregivers who know everyone deeply, and one flat price.

What does it cost?

$4,500/month shared, $5,250/month private — everything included. We publish it because you shouldn't have to sit through a sales tour to learn a number.

Who is a good fit?

Aged and elderly adults who need daily help — bathing, dressing, meals, medications — but not round-the-clock skilled nursing. Walkers and wheelchairs welcome: everything is on one floor.

When do you open?

Our license application is in progress with the State of Michigan (LARA), and we open as soon as the license is issued. We're reserving our first five rooms now — Founding Families move in first.

Can we visit? Are grandchildren welcome?

Yes — this is your family's home too. We have a written visitation policy with reasonable hours and flexibility for out-of-town family. Grandchildren are welcome: the family room has a TV, games, and a card table, and we can set aside quiet space for private family time. From out of town? Ask us about an overnight stay minutes away through our guest house and local partners.

Can they bring their own furniture?

Yes — we encourage it. Their own quilt, their own chair, their own photos. It's their home.

What if her money runs low someday?

We plan for that with you honestly, in writing, before move-in — including options like VA benefits and Michigan programs — so nobody faces that conversation in a crisis.

How do we start?

Fill out the short form above, or email hello@alderwyncarehomes.com. We'll talk for 15 minutes about your loved one, then invite you to walk through the house.
